Since February 2025, Alexander Mitev has been the new conductor of the Sofia Boys’ Choir.

Born in 1993 in Sofia, Alexander Mitev graduated from the National School of Music “Lyubomir Pipkov”. He continued his education at New Bulgarian University, majoring in Opera Singing, and later at the National Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov”, where he completed two degrees: Choral Conducting in the class of Prof. Dr. Adriana Blagoeva, and Music Pedagogy, graduating under her supervision. In 2022, he obtained a degree in Special and School Psychology at New Bulgarian University. He is currently a PhD student at the Faculty of Education of St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo, Department of Music.
His artistic career began as a chorister in the Bodra Smiana Choir and the Sofia Boys’ Choir — as a member of its boys’, youth, and mixed formations. He also sang in the choir of the National School of Music and in the Grand Academic Choir of the National Academy of Music.
Between 2017 and 2022, he served as assistant conductor and solfège teacher of the Sofia Boys’ Choir. In 2017, he became a music teacher at the 32nd Secondary School of Foreign Languages “St. Kliment Ohridski”, where he founded the Children’s Representative Choir in 2018 and the vocal ensemble FORTE DIVAS in 2022. Under his direction, these ensembles have been actively engaged in concert performances and have won numerous national and international awards. He also leads the Arts and Sports Competence Team at the school. Since February 2025, he has been the conductor of the Sofia Boys’ Choir at the Chitalishte “Tsar Boris III – 1928”.
Alexander Mitev has received numerous personal awards and distinctions, among them:
- Crystal Lyre Award of the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers (2016 – Jubilee Edition)
- “Worthy Bulgarian” Award of 24 Chasa newspaper and Bulgarian National Television (2012)
- Award for outstanding achievements at the 9th National Competition for Creative Works, organized by the Cambridge Schools Association and Klett Bulgaria Publishing
- Second Prize at the 9th “Music and Knowledge” Competition – Theory of Musical Elements (2013, NBU)
- Diploma for contributions to the promotion of Russian music in Bulgaria (2010)
- Audience Award in the “Best Teaching Practices” competition (2023)
- Diploma for contribution to the cultural life of the 32nd Secondary School of Foreign Languages “St. Kliment Ohridski” (2024)
One of his most significant distinctions is the Audience Award at the 7th National Festival of Christmas and New Year’s Songs in Haskovo, won with his own composition “Christmas Has Come”.
Alexander Mitev is an active participant in conferences, seminars, and projects. He publishes scholarly articles on issues of choral art and music pedagogy in respected academic journals. In 2024, he presented a paper at the Academic Forum on Integral Music Theory (Musica in modi di festa – Bulgarian Composers’ Visions, National Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov”). His academic interests are focused on the history and development of Bulgarian children’s choirs from the National Revival period to the present day, as well as on the creation of contemporary methods for working with choristers.
He has served as a jury member at several national and international competitions. Currently, Alexander Mitev is the only Bulgarian member of the International Society for Music Education (ISME). Between 2021 and 2023, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Chitalishte “Tsar Boris III – 1928”, nominated by Prof. Dr. Adriana Blagoeva.
