SOFIA BOYS’ CHOIR

“The Boys Are Singing” International Choir Festival

The Association “Sofia Boys’ Choir” has launched the implementation of project BGCULTURE-2.001-0123-C01 International Choir Festival “The Boys Sing” carried out with the financial support of the RA14 Programme “Cultural Entrepreneurship, Heritage, and Cooperation,” with contributions from Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, and the Kingdom of Norway, and through support from the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014–2021. The project partner is the Boys’ Choir of Reykjavik.

The contract was signed within the framework of the First Call for Project Proposals under Result 2 “Improved Access to Arts and Culture,” financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014–2021.

The eligible project costs amount to €178,529.93, of which €136,472.64 are financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area, €24,083.41 from national co-financing, and €17,973.88 as own contribution. The project has a duration of 24 months and is scheduled to conclude in January 2024.

The project aims to accelerate cooperation and cultural exchange with the donor countries, expand the scope of cultural activities at local and regional levels, and attract new audiences. The festival will improve people’s access to music of different genres and cultures, as well as their engagement, through joint meetings with the choristers. The project will contribute to creating equal access to culture for citizens from various social groups and will support their inclusion in cultural processes.

Project activities include the preparation and organization of three editions of the International Choir Festival “The Boys Are Singing”. Both Bulgarian and foreign boys’ choirs will participate in the festival, including the Choir of Sofia Boys and the Boys’ Choir of Reykjavik. The festival editions will take place in Sofia, Reykjavik, as well as in smaller towns in Bulgaria and Iceland, where informal meetings between performers and audiences will be organized. The festival will also host creative meetings of conductors for experience exchange, as well as workshops with participants to prepare joint performances for the gala concerts.

As a result of the project implementation, cultural exchange between the partner countries will be enhanced, new audiences will be attracted, and access to arts and culture in smaller communities will be facilitated.
