With the concert 100 Bulgarian Voices Sing for Boris Christoff, held on 18 May 2014 in Plovdiv, the spring edition of the Fifth International Festival Days of Music at the Balabanov House was officially opened. The city of Plovdiv marked the centenary of the birth of the great Bulgarian bass Boris Christoff, one of the most revered figures in world opera history.
More than one hundred singers from some of Bulgaria’s finest choirs joined forces on the stage of the Boris Christoff Cultural Centre at 11:30 a.m., paying tribute to the internationally acclaimed artist through a powerful collective musical homage.
Among the participating ensembles were the Plovdiv Boys’ Choir, conducted by Milka Toledova; the Vasil Arnaudov Sofia Chamber Choir, conducted by Teodora Pavlovich; the Sofia Boys’ Choir at the Community Cultural Centre “Tsar Boris III – 1928”, conducted by Adriana Blagoeva, Prof. PhD; and the Stefka Blagoeva Men’s Choir from Plovdiv, conducted by Plamen Parvanov.
The festival was realized with the support of the America for Bulgaria Foundation, the Municipality of Plovdiv, the Old Plovdiv Municipal Institute, KCM 2000 AD, and the Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria. With its distinguished artistic vision and rich, multi-layered programme, the festival also lent strong support to Plovdiv’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2019.
