With the concert “100 Bulgarian Voices Sing for Boris Christoff”, held today (May 18, 2014) in the city of Plovdiv, the spring edition of the Fifth International Festival “Days of Music at the Balabanov House” officially began. The city beneath the hills marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Bulgarian bass Boris Christoff.
More than a hundred singers from some of Bulgaria’s finest choirs performed together on the stage of the Boris Christoff City House of Culture at 11:30 a.m., in tribute to the internationally renowned artist.
Among the participating ensembles were the Plovdiv Boys’ Choir, conducted by Milka Toledova; the Sofia Chamber Choir “Vassil Arnaudov”, conducted by Teodora Pavlovich; the Sofia Boys’ Choir, conducted by Professor Adriana Blagoeva; and the Stefka Blagoeva Male Choir – Plovdiv, conducted by Plamen Parvanov.
The festival is supported by the America for Bulgaria Foundation, Plovdiv Municipality, the Municipal Institute “Ancient Plovdiv”, KCM 2000 AD, and the Ministry of Culture. With its high artistic standards and rich, multifaceted program, the festival lends strong support to Plovdiv’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture in 2019.
